Tomtara!

I found this to be another very Crosairish puzzle (bar the signature Tommy deletion clues which add so much!). I congratulate you.

Here are my notes along the way:

VECTOR: I think I might have vaguely remembered VECTOR as being something to do with contagious disease, but maybe not. So, it's Lookup of the Day for me.
ABSCESS: classic clue ... very nice.
UP TO: a lovely deletion.
ADONIS: and another!
FIVES: this clue reads so well ... very inventive.
BUTTON: another classic, that reads so well.
BEATER: this was my last, and so cleverly written. Definitely Clue of the Day.
