Tommy,
For a Tommy puzzle (which often defeats me, or takes a while) I fairly zipped through this one. I got through in about 20 minutes, just under the mug of tea "target". The biggest help of course, was the Saturday Crosaire design. I picked up three of the four them answers at the beginning, and then worked inwards.
But, excellent puzzle. Even with a some unique Tommyisms, this was the most Crosiare-like puzzle I've seen yet (which I hope you take as a compliment!).
Notes along the way:
SWORD THEME: I liked the use of SWORD as "WORD" in the E-W answers, a unique twist on Crosaire's methodology.
KITE: partial clue (unless I missed something) ... very Crosaire
AIDE: perfect! Very efficient clue with a classic structure.
AVENUE: same again, perfect clue with a classic structure
RATTLER: fortunately I've spent enough time in the desert to known what a sidewinder is, as I needed to see your explanation to unravel the rest of the clue
DEBATE: made me smile. You'd only get away with DE-BATE sounding like "the bait" in an Irish puzzle, and a Dublin one "at dat" :)
MEOW: smiley face!
SHUN: guessed at SHUN from the clue, and only just spotted the "huns" anagram as i am writing this!
WEAK PASSWORDS: very contemporary, Crosaire of the 21st century :)
PUREE: couldn't tell if the answer was PUREE or RUPEE, until I got the RATTLER
MOREL: my last. Had to use the ML and the ORE to get there, as I didn't make the leap from "course" to MOREL until the last minute
DECIDE: Clue of the Day ... I do like some clever word puzzles!
LIMB: another smiley face :)
Great job, Tommy, I'd say. Spot on!
